The history of our company began way back in 1905 when great-grandmother Concetta, married to Peppino Nocito, began designing and having jewellery made for herself and her friends out of a personal passion.
What started as a game – and moreover was opposed by the family, who frowned upon the idea of a female entrepreneur – soon turned into the oldest and longest-running jewellery business in Sciacca. Concetta also witnessed the incredible events that took place in Sciacca at that time. Huge banks of fossil coral had been discovered off the coast of Sciacca thirty years earlier, but they were still in the process of being cultivated. As such, not only did incredible quantities of coral and jewellery passing through Concetta’s stand, but so did stories of men and women who had been enraptured by this extraordinary discovery and went in search of their fortune. This heritage and these stories have fascinated generations of the female members of the family, who took up the baton from Concetta. Next came Rosa, then Lina and finally our Laura, who, like Grandma Concetta, now designs wonderful jewellery that she makes entirely by hand in her well-equipped workshop.
Laura Nocito,
goldsmith by passion.
Growing up in a family where stories about jewellery and coral were the order of the day, at the age of 18, Laura enrolled at the school of art and crafts in Vicenza, where, after a five-year course, she became a goldsmith and gem-setter
But the call of coral and her roots led her to move to Sicily. In Trapani, in the goldsmith’s workshop of Maestro Platimiro Fiorenza, the last heir of the master coral engravers of the Trapanese school of the seventeenth century, she learnt the ancient and refined techniques of working coral and forging Sicilian jewellery through skills that have been handed down from master to pupil for centuries.
With this extraordinary training that combined the modern techniques of jewellery making with the centuries-old tradition of Sicilian coral workers, she reopened the family business with her brother Mario, harnessing her passion and experience with creations that are both modern but with an antique flavour, refined and elegant in their forms, and precious and elegant in their materials.
The year 2024 saw the crowning achievement of twenty years of passion, study and commitment when she was awarded title of Master of Arts and Crafts in Venice by the Cologni Foundation.
Creations
Ours is the most beautiful craft in the world.
We give jewellery as a gift for our most beautiful moments and as such it represents an emotion that is captured so you can relive it each time you wear it and, sometimes, so it can be handed down from generation to generation. Our jewellery is like our stories. Our stories are of family and of the women who defied convention to establish themselves with passion, creating a path that has led from generation to generation with grace and determination. Like our most beautiful jewellery, it has been handed down to the present day, passing on charm, self-determination, independence and beauty.
